What you'll do:
• Dive into viral disinformation and campaigns, busting myths (or confirming rumours) for our News24 readers.
• Create news and feature articles, meeting deadlines and sticking to News24's style.
• Brainstorm daily debunks and fact-check ideas.
• Connect with a network of people to work on debunking/confirming.
• Keep up with the quality and style that News24 sets.
• Follow the South African Press Code rules.
• Help whip up multimedia elements for articles when needed.
• Find experts for deep-dive interviews on hot topics.
What we are looking for:
• Genius-level general knowledge and a knack for sniffing out lies and nonsense.
• Any training or background in OSINT and disinformation is a major plus.
• Be a pro on all major social media platforms.
• Have a solid network of contacts (way more than just official folks).
• Work well on your own.
• Have a strong grip on English and write catchy, quirky articles.
• Handle pressure and tight deadlines like a champ.
• Manage your time well, multitask effectively, and get things done promptly.
• Know your way around the online news scene and digital publishing tools.
What you need to have:
• A diploma or degree in journalism, languages, politics, or media studies.
• Experience writing for big news organisations, reporting for online, wire news, or broadcast services.
• At least 5 years of news media experience.
• Ideally, some experience with creating multimedia content.
• A valid driver’s license.
