THE JOB AT A GLANCE
Reporting to the Executive: Investment and Strategy, the Head: Data and Analytics will be responsible for managing the Advanced Analytics, Data Warehouse, Business Intelligence, Data Governance and System Integration services within RMA towards the provision of accurate data for the purposes of decision making, strategy formulation and stakeholder management. The incumbent will be required to lead specialist data analysts, scientists, and engineers and will be required to engage with the business to ensure that solutions delivered meet expectations.
WHAT WILL YOU DO?
Data Warehousing, BI and Advance Analytics
- Develop a cutting-edge, world class business intelligence and analytical function to support decision making, strategy formulation and stakeholder management.
- Provide data to inform and guide businesses and act as an analytical powerhouse to be leveraged by critical internal and external stakeholders.
- Develop a group wide data strategy to determine and meet the data needs of the group
- Use information, business intelligence and advance analytics to advise and inform business on issues impacting strategy and operations.
- Use data to monitor the implementation of performance management in accordance with the organizational strategy.
Governance
- Oversee the administration and management of all enterprise data.
- Establish and maintain policies to manage enterprise data to ensure compliance, security, and confidentiality of data (i.e. Enterprise Data Governance Policy).
- Ensure that the appropriate generation, use, retention and disposal of data and information is consistent with RMA policies.
- Coordinate appropriate procedures that satisfy specified information security requirements, including legal and statutory compliance obligations with the Financial Services Board, Promotion of Access to Information Act (PAIA), Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA) and Electronic Communications and Transactions Act (ECTA).
- Ensure correct record keeping for each data element policy, data source, data provenance, data element business name, and data element definition.
Data Integration
- Manage the planning and coordinating of data integration projects from design to production implementation.
- Manage the technical aspect of API and ESB development/architecture.
- Manage and maintain mission critical services and batch integrations and develop new services.
- Collaborate with all stakeholders to successfully implement the Integration Strategy to enable digital transformation.
Reporting on Progress
- Use appropriate templates and channels to report on progress on a weekly and monthly basis.
- Adhere to deadlines and ensure accuracy and quality.
Requirements:
What You’ll Bring to the Table
- Knowledge of business policies, processes and procedures, legal compliance
- NQF Level 8: Honours degree in Maths, Statistics, Computer Science or IT
- Business Management Degree (e.g. MBA) preferred
- Minimum 6 years managerial experience
- At least 5 years of experience in strategic analysis and business insights
- Experience implementing data governance
- Experience in Data, BI, Advanced Analytics and Data warehousing
- Experience in system integration services
- Thorough understanding of database management systems;
- Thorough understanding of data warehousing, advance analytics, data lakes, business intelligence and data reporting services and systems;
- Experience in complex system integration;
- Knowledge and understanding of business strategy formulation
- Insurance or Financial Services experience advantageous
