The News Reporter is a vital member of the Input Desk at Newzroom Afrika, responsible for ensuring that the news gathering process is executed in a timely, accurate, and engaging manner. Working under the leadership of the Assignments team, the News Reporter will shape and create news stories that differentiate Newzroom Afrika from other broadcasters in South Africa and beyond.

Location: Western Cape, South Africa
Job Summary:
The News Reporter is a vital member of the Input Desk at Newzroom Afrika, responsible for ensuring that the news gathering process is executed in a timely, accurate, and engaging manner. Working under the leadership of the Assignments team, the News Reporter will shape and create news stories that differentiate Newzroom Afrika from other broadcasters in South Africa and beyond.
Key Responsibilities:
- Generate story ideas daily in consultation with the assignments team
- Conduct on-camera interviews and live crossing
- Write engaging scripts that are always accurate and adhere to the company’s editorial policy and style guide
- Ensure story ideas are unique and original, targeting the appropriate audience
- Keep and maintain strong contacts base and continuously cultivate contacts
- Able to work on long form reports when required
- Provide content for Newzroom Afrika’s online offering including the website and social media accounts when requested
- Generate exclusive content
- Be a Self-starter
Qualifications, Skills and Competencies
- Minimum 5 years reporting experience with an emphasis on television news
- Journalism or other relevant qualification
- Ability to identify strong unique stories
- Knowledge of parliamentary processes and procedures.
- Strong sense of ethics and understanding of editorial independence
- Good grasp of English and other official South African languages
- Must be prepared to work shift hours, including early morning and late evening
- Determination & resilience
- Team player with a passion for news and current affairs
- Strong contacts base in various sectors
- Strong work ethic and ‘’can-do ‘’ attitude
