Are you a detail-oriented and analytical payroll professional with strong accounting and tax expertise?

My client is seeking a Payroll Accountant to join their team and take responsibility for payroll tax compliance, payroll accounting, and reconciliations.

This role is based in Springs, Johannesburg East.

Key Responsibilities:

Payroll Tax Compliance:
- Advise the Payroll Services team on income tax implications.
- Draft opinions on income tax consequences for ad hoc queries.
- Assist with and advise on complex income tax and VAT issues.
- Interpret income tax legislation and ensure compliance.
- Support the implementation of payroll transactions.
- Adhere to risk management procedures.
- Manage the daily payroll processing, including salary, wages, and tax reconciliations.
- Prepare, review, and file amended tax returns.
Payroll Accounting & Reporting:
- Review third-party payments and reconcile them to the general ledger.
- Prepare management reports, including provision reporting.
- Process payroll journals and general ledger entries.
- Import weekly and monthly payroll interface data.
- Perform monthly reconciliations of general ledger accounts.
- Conduct reviews and testing of payroll provisions.
- Ensure accurate reporting of payroll information.
- Verify statutory deductions and ensure timely payments with correct GL entries and reconciliations.
- Oversee payroll-related benefits (e.g., provident funds, pension funds, and medical funds) to ensure accurate processing and reconciliation.
- Maintain compliance with payroll documentation and month-end reports.
- Prepare integrated reports for operations and support external audit processes.
- Assist with Employment Equity and StatsSA reporting.
- Support general accounting functions as required.

Key Requirements:

Degree in Finance or Accounting.
Post-graduate qualification in Tax or a professional Tax Practitioner is advantageous.
Minimum of 5 years' experience in payroll accounting and tax compliance.
Must have worked in a Shared Services environment.
Strong knowledge of payroll legislation, tax regulations, and VAT.
Proficiency in payroll systems and accounting software.
Experience with general ledger reconciliations and statutory reporting.
Attention to detail, analytical skills, and the ability to manage deadlines.
