Key Responsibilities:
Database Management:
Design, implement, and maintain relational and non-relational databases used for various oil and gas applications (e.g., production data, seismic data, reservoir modeling, drilling, and asset management).
Monitor and optimize database performance, ensuring high availability and security of critical data.
Perform regular database backups, recovery, and data integrity checks.
Data Integration and Migration:
Lead the integration of various data sources and systems (e.g., SCADA, ERP, data historians, and other industry-specific applications) to streamline operations and improve data accessibility.
Coordinate and manage data migration projects, ensuring smooth transitions and minimal downtime during system upgrades or migrations.
Data Security and Compliance:
Ensure that databases comply with industry standards, regulations, and company policies regarding data security, privacy, and integrity.
Implement appropriate security measures, including user access controls and encryption, to protect sensitive operational and financial data.
Assist with audits and compliance reporting related to data governance in the oil and gas industry.
Data Analysis and Reporting:
Develop and maintain automated data extraction, transformation, and loading (ETL) processes to ensure the timely and accurate flow of data.
Collaborate with teams to generate regular reports, visualizations, and dashboards that support key decision-making in operations, production, finance, and maintenance.
Provide expertise in data mining and analysis, offering insights into operational performance, trends, and optimization opportunities.
Troubleshooting and Support:
Troubleshoot database issues, identify root causes, and apply corrective actions to restore database functionality.
Provide technical support to end-users, ensuring efficient use of database systems and tools.
Coordinate with cross-functional teams (IT, operations, engineering) to address any data-related challenges or requirements.
Performance Optimization:
Continuously monitor database performance, identifying and resolving performance bottlenecks to improve system efficiency.
Implement tuning techniques, such as indexing and query optimization, to maximize database performance.
Work with application developers to optimize database interactions and reduce query load.
Database Design and Architecture:
Contribute to the design and architecture of database systems to support the evolving needs of the oil and gas operations.
Ensure the structure and design of the database meet the needs of multiple teams, from drilling engineers to finance and asset management.
Collaboration and Documentation:
Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to ensure data needs are met for both operational and strategic decision-making.
Document all processes, procedures, and best practices to ensure consistency and knowledge transfer across teams.
Train and mentor junior database staff and other team members on best practices in database management.
Qualifications:
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field.
Experience: Minimum of 5 years of experience in database administration or database management within the oil and gas industry.
Technical Skills:
Proficiency in database management systems (e.g., SQL Server, Oracle, MySQL, PostgreSQL, or similar).
Strong experience with data integration tools and techniques (e.g., ETL, data warehousing).
Experience in managing large datasets related to exploration, production, and operational data in the oil and gas sector.
Knowledge of data management technologies used in the oil and gas industry, such as production data management (PDM), SCADA systems, and asset management systems.
Certifications (preferred):
Certification in Database Management (e.g., Microsoft Certified: Azure Database Administrator, Oracle Certified Professional).
Experience with industry-specific data management systems and tools (e.g., Schlumberger, Halliburton, or similar).
Software Skills:
Familiarity with data visualization tools (e.g., Power BI, Tableau) and reporting software.
Experience with scripting languages for database management (e.g., Python, PowerShell, Bash).
