- Installation: Install and maintain plumbing systems for new construction and renovations, including pipes, fixtures, and appliances.
- Maintenance: Conduct regular inspections and preventative maintenance on plumbing systems to identify and address potential issues before they escalate.
- Repair: Diagnose and repair plumbing problems, including leaks, blockages, faulty fixtures, and malfunctioning equipment.
- Troubleshooting: Identify the cause of plumbing malfunctions and implement effective solutions.
- Compliance: Ensure all plumbing work complies with relevant South African building codes, regulations, and safety standards (e.g., SANS codes).
- Material Management: Maintain an inventory of necessary plumbing supplies and materials, and inform the Facilities Manager of any required purchases.
- Record Keeping: Maintain accurate records of all plumbing work performed, including maintenance schedules, repairs, and installations.
- Emergency Response: Respond promptly to plumbing emergencies, such as burst pipes or sewer backups.
- Collaboration: Work collaboratively with other maintenance staff and contractors to ensure efficient and effective maintenance operations.
- Customer Service: Provide excellent customer service to students, staff, and visitors, addressing their plumbing concerns in a professional and timely manner.
Job Summary:
The Qualified Plumber is responsible for the installation, maintenance, and repair of plumbing systems across both the Pretoria North and Johannesburg campuses of Belgium Campus iTversity. This includes, but is not limited to, water supply, drainage, sanitation, and related fixtures and equipment. The successful candidate will possess a strong understanding of plumbing principles, relevant South African regulations, and a commitment to delivering high-quality workmanship.
Key Responsibilities:
Required Skills
- Qualified Plumber: 5 to 6 years
- Recognised Plumbing Qualification (Eg. Trade Test Certificate/Red Seal): 5 to 6 years
- Commercial Or Institutional Experience: 5 to 6 years
Candidate Requirements
- Formal Qualification: A recognised plumbing qualification (e.g., trade test certificate/red seal) is essential.
- Experience: Minimum of 5 years of experience as a qualified plumber, preferably in a commercial or institutional setting.
- Registration: Registration with the relevant South African plumbing regulatory body (e.g., PIRB) is highly advantageous.
- Knowledge: Sound knowledge of plumbing principles, techniques, and materials.
- Regulations: Thorough understanding of relevant South African building codes and regulations related to plumbing.
- Skills: Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Physical Abilities: Ability to perform physically demanding tasks, including lifting, bending, and working in confined spaces.
- Communication: Good communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Driving Licence: A valid South African driver's license is required, as travel between campuses is necessary.
- Reliability: Dependable and punctual, with a strong work ethic.
- Problem-solver: Proactive in identifying and resolving issues.
- Attention to Detail: Meticulous in ensuring the quality of workmanship.
