Purpose: The purpose of this job is, to manage the day to day maintenance of stock levels within the inventory parameters on the stock system and monitor merchandising and housekeeping standards of stock on shelves in such a way that stock discrepancies are reduced in order to minimize losses. This includes managing the flow of stock from the receiving department in the respective departments in the store, ensuring that products are unpacked correctly and making sure that accurate stock records are maintained at all times. In addition this includes ensuring that stock corresponds with stock on hand that’s recorded on the stock system used and investigate issues that arise in such a manner it ensure the continuous availability of stock.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Control daily weekly and monthly stocktakes/cycle counts in various departments according to a schedule
- Investigate stock discrepancies in various departments as well as liaise with the stock controllers across the relevant branches to check stock on hands against computer stock
- Maintain stock levels including monitoring of transfer to be actioned timeously
- Liaise with management on a daily basis where there are stock discrepancies request management to adjust stock accordingly
- Investigate outstanding invoices and orders before forwarding adjustments to management alleviating errors and checking of credit slips as per managements request or using initiative with regards to credit slips when stock discrepancies are identified
- Maintain harmonious working relationships with internal stakeholders who supply and transfer stock by consistently deliver internal customer service satisfaction in terms of the company’s customer service standards
- Comply with Health & Safety standards
- Participate in perpetual stock takes
- Ensure housekeeping of work area
- Delegate work related stock tasks to Junior personnel
- Perform any work related tasks as delegated by superior
REQUIREMENTS:
- Matric or Equivalent
- Candidates with no Matric but have 5-7 years’ experience in a Stock management function; Managing Stock course at 54 credits, Sales and Customer Care course at 30 credits and Leadership and Supervisory course at 50 credits and In-house Leadership course will be considered the positions
- 5 Years’ minimum experience in a similar role
- Internal stock system knowledge
- Ability to handle pressure
- Ability to communicate effectively (verbal &written) at all levels
- Policy and procedure driven
- Microsoft office (Internet, E-mails, Word & Excel)
- Good numerical skills
- Planning, time management & organising skills

About Brights Hardware
Brights Hardware was founded in 1971 by Mr. and Mrs. Luis as a General Dealer specialising in electrical contracting and repairs. Through the years, the business has grown into a multi-faceted outlet for all one’s building material and hardware needs. Since opening the first warehouse in Stikland, Cape Town in 1995, Brights has expanded considerably with the first franchisee store in Plattekloof in 2006 and a store in Blackheath in 2009. In this same year, Northern Trusses was incorporated into the Brights Group, and renamed to Brights Trusses.
Further expansion continued with the opening of a store in Uitzicht, Durbanville at the end of 2011, one in Langebaan in April 2012, and a big store in Montague Park at the end of 2013.
Today, Brights is owned and operated by the Luis children, their spouses and Brights staff members who are shareholders. Mrs. Luis, still part of the business as Founding Director, has devoted her time to the training and upliftment of Brights staff.
The late Mr. Luis, who passed away in 1998, is remembered as a leader with a great vision and tons of energy – earning him the title of “Bright Spark” in the family. This “spark” was captured in real-life by his daughter, Marina, who created “Sparky” for her pen pals when she was younger. The very same “Sparky” is still part of the company logo to this day.
