Sales Representative – Industrial Chemical Products
Area: Durban
Package: R20000 p/m plus commission, plus a company vehicle and med aid and pension.
Purpose of the position: To actively market a basket of chemical products to the Industrial sector, with the purpose of increasing market share, whilst providing excellent customer service
Key performance areas:
· Sales & Business Growth: Meet and exceed monthly and annual sales targets
· Customer Acquisition: Follow up on leads within 24 hours and develop new business opportunities
· Technical Consultation: Match the chemical products to various textures (wood, plastic, paper, carton, boards) based on customer needs
· Product & Industry Knowledge: Work closely with the lab to provide clients with the best chemical solutions, competing directly with industry rivals
· Account Management: Maintain and grow existing customer relationships, provide product training, and manage stock levels
· Debt Collection & Admin: Assist with collections, customer queries, and ensure accurate reporting
· Compliance & Operations: Work closely with internal teams to ensure smooth order processing, stock management, and distribution
Required Skills
- Chemical Sales: 3 to 4 years
- Technical Sales Consulting: 3 to 4 years
- Industrial Products Sales : 3 to 4 years
Candidate Requirements
Skills, Experience & Education
Education:
· Grade 12 minimum
· Tertiary diploma or qualification in sales, marketing, or a related technical field (advantageous)
Experience:
· Minimum 5 years of technical sales experience in plastic, paper & packaging, chemicals, or a related industry
· Proven track record in business development and sales
· Knowledge of chemicals (water-based, solvent, and hotmelt) (advantageous)
· Experience with Salesforce (advantageous)
Skills:
· Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills
· Excellent communication, negotiation, and problem-solving abilities
· Highly organized with attention to detail and accuracy
· Self-motivated, proactive, and able to thrive in a fast-paced environment
· Team player with a results-driven approach
Technical Expertise:
· Strong technical/industrial experience required
· Excellent knowledge of chemicals and their applications on different textures
· Lab/chemical experience is highly advantageous as this role involves liaising with the lab to develop competitive chemical solutions
Other requirements:
· Willingness to travel and work occasional weekends (trade shows and promotions)
· Ability to handle customer complaints professionally
Comfortable working in a fast-paced, target-driven environment
