Purpose and Description of the Job:
To develop accurate, fully compliant and competitive tenders by ensuring timeous, accurate and comprehensive preparation and completion of tender submission documents according to the
tender requirements.
Requirements
- Degree/diploma in Civil Engineering, Construction Management or Quantity Surveying.
- At least 5 years’ experience as an Estimator at a medium to large construction company.
- Minimum 5 years’ on-site experience in the construction industry. Preferably in the Roads
and Earthworks and/or Township services industries.
Other requirements:
- Advanced Proficiency of CCS estimating and planning modules.
- Advanced knowledge in Microsoft Office (Excel, Power Point, Word & Outlook) and
Adobe.
- Sound knowledge of standard contract documentation (GCC, NEC, FIDIC, JBCC) and
specifications (SANS/COLTO/COTO).
- Ability to review the tender documentation and identify any potential risk and/or gains.
- Ablity to do take offs and prepare sub-contracting and buying schedules
- Implement and manage tender buying for materials and sub-contracting packages
- Able to, from time to time travel to site inspections for tenders which may include overnight stay.
Tasks and Duties
The envisaged tasks and duties of the incumbent are as follows:
- Searching for relevant tenders on various platforms.
- Attend tender inspections and assess the scope of work and risks.
- Review project drawings and specifications to determine scope of work.
- Prepare quotation requests.
- Quantity take-off from drawings to evaluate accuracy of Bill of Quantities when tendering.
- Compare and evaluate supplier and subcontractor quotations.
- Accurately complete and submit tenders by applying estimating practices within deadlines, to
secure profitable contracts.
- Negotiate with suppliers and subcontractors following successful award of tender.
- Hand off project and proposals to Operations Teams following the successful award of tender.
- Maintain records and electronic filing system for each tender.
- Continuously update the Supplier and Subcontractor database with new vendors
