There is an immediate vacancy for a Business Development Manager (West), who will be reporting to the Head of Sales & Marketing.
Position Overview
The Business Development Manager will focus on both Capital (New Sales) within the geographical business areas.
The incumbent must possess strong technical, sales and marketing skills and must be knowledgeable in the applicable areas of underground mining and specifically mechanized mining equipment and related systems. The position requires an individual with good business acumen who is able to work independently.
Sound communication and presentation skills are important, as are developing and maintaining healthy professional relationships with the various stakeholders, which are crucial to the success of this position. Other commercial and administrative functions will form part of the duties and the employee must be fully conversant with all related functions.
The candidate will be required to manage all facets of their business unit, including but not limited to, capital and aftermarket existing and new business creation, their respective growth, and client retention
Key Responsibilities
• Managing operations within geographical area of responsibility
Developing and generating business and increasing profitability.
• Implement business strategy specific to area of operation, as established by the Head of Department.
• Detailing annual business operating plans, setting quarterly and annual budgets.
• Recruit staff and monitor performance, with the possibility of training and mentorship.
• Sales & marketing activities in respective geographic areas.
• Developing Client specific sales strategies to support the sales vision as prescribed by the Head of Department.
• Implementation of established sales policies, practices and procedures.
• Perform competitor technical product analysis as well as pricing analysis.
• Develop and implement marketing strategies for new market segments.
• Ensure retention and growth of existing Clients.
• Continuous engagement and collaboration with engineering and production departments.
• Packaging of proposal /tenders for mining sector.
• Understanding of commercial law is advantageous.
• Networking with industry professional and stakeholders in mining sector.
• Attending to commercial contracts, remedies and negotiation for deviant conditions.
• Creates opportunities, negotiates and closes business deals and maintains extensive industry and product knowledge.
• Effectively supports existing clients to ensure Client retention.
• Market analysis, identify and promote company’s sustainable competitive advantages.
• Travelling to mine, underground visits to assess problems and determine suitability of
Mining machinery for the application.
Requirements
• 5 Years or more proven working experience as a Business Development Manager
• Excellent communication and leadership skills
• Excellent track record of applied engineering experience
• Product data management experience
• Ability to plan, multi-task and manage time effectively
• Strong report writing and record keeping ability
• BEng Mechanical Engineering or related field degree

• Ability to compile engineering costs
• Ability to compile quotes and tenders

• Understand the market, its dynamics, size, market share, competitors, opportunities, and threats, and report and act accordingly.
• Conduct a comparative analysis of our offering versus competitors: make recommendations and engage head of engineering and the board to exploit opportunities and or address weaknesses or threats
• Increase market share
• Relate the company’s ethos and relay branding to clients
• Detailed product knowledge, including unique and distinctive features of products, technology, and services
• Account management with subordinates deployed to the region
• Maintain relationships relevant and current, frequency of interaction with role-players
• Interaction with clients with factory orders, review and update the scope of supply, and amend agreements
• Resolve conflicts between clients and factory or aftermarket personnel
• Act as a liaison between production/engineering and the clients
• Understanding T&Cs of commercial agreements/contracts
• Understanding of financing options – Various means of structuring transactions: leases, rentals, instalment sales
• Ability to compile professional (comprehensive, accurate) presentations efficiently
• Ability to present professionally and captivate the audience’s attention for the duration
• Use various media to interact with clients / gain exposure for new prospective clients
• Interact with clients at a high-level decision-makers
