Starke Ayres is the foremost African specialist and global supplier of premium vegetable, flower and lawn seed varieties – both for commercial and home garden planting. The following position has become available for a Warehouse Supervisor/Manager, based in Kempton Park. The purpose of this role is to monitor seed processing and seed movement according to processing, sales and shipping schedules and procedures, and ensure timeous distribution to relevant internal and external parties

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Supervise shipping process execution and documentation which may include local, import and export. Choose between established shipping methods (truck, rail, ocean etc.) for distributing seed, engineering project items, agricultural implements, research supplies, promotional items etc. Confirm loading and equipment needs


• Weekly progress feedback on the status of planned in and out bound deliveries from procurements, field productions and customers/depots


• Ensures deliveries to Depots are planned and executed according to orders and instructions on SageX3


• Prepare and plan space for new seed production, procured and finished goods inventory.


• Monitors workflow and identify alternatives to manage volume and time requirements and meet sales / packing / seed processing/ distribution site needs.


• Regularly monitors receiving and packing schedules to meet deadlines.


• Sampling of seed lots according to ISTA rules.


• Coordinate day-to-day activities of staff within the warehouse to ensure goods are properly moved, handled and stored safely in compliance with legislative requirements and company policies and procedures.


• Ensure regular inspections and maintenance are done on vehicles, forklifts, cold-room and buildings.


• Ensure quality of seed and products in the warehouse by ensuring optimal warehouse conditions are maintained such as cleanliness, tidiness and adequate pest management.


• Ensure daily cold room inspections are carried out and report deviations from prescribed temperature and humidity to Quality Assurance Manager


• Apply, monitor and implement all OHSA measures in respect of the warehouses, cold rooms and vehicles.


• Monitor and ensure that seed lots prioritized for immediate sales due to age and / or quality of seed is executed accordingly - FIFO.


• Coordinate and participate in bi-annual stock takes.


• Control monthly expenses.


• Implement operational policies and procedures in the warehouse environment.

REQUIREMENTS:

Qualifications:

• Grade 12 (Essential)


• Tertiary degree or Diploma in Production and Supply Chain or similar (preferential)

Experience:

• 3+ years as store planner, 5+ years as warehouse supervisor
