We are currently seeking a highly skilled and experienced Design Engineer to join a prestigious company in the infrastructure consulting sector. This role offers the opportunity to work on a diverse range of projects, from water and sanitation systems to roads and structural engineering, ensuring the successful delivery of infrastructure projects from inception to completion.
Job Purpose:
The Civil Design Engineer will be responsible for project planning up to detail design, documentation, and project implementation, including the preparation of close-out reports for infrastructure projects. This role ensures the successful delivery of projects by overseeing planning, execution, and completion across various sectors. The Design Engineer will drive project timelines, cost-effectiveness, and quality standards to achieve client satisfaction, revenue goals, and compliance with all industry regulations.
Key Responsibilities:
Building Business Development and Growth:
Identify and recommend new project opportunities within existing client accounts to support incremental revenue growth.
Collaborate with the Divisional Head and business development team to pitch project-specific solutions to prospective clients, showcasing the company’s expertise and value.
Research and analyze industry trends to identify emerging project opportunities, proposing adjustments to services or approaches to keep the company competitive.
Foster partnerships with sub-consultants, suppliers, and other stakeholders to support project efficiency and cost-effectiveness, thereby enhancing the service portfolio.
Provide input on project proposals and bids, ensuring realistic timelines, budget considerations, and resource needs are accurately reflected to secure profitable projects.
Managing Risk & Compliance:
Oversee project execution from inception to close-out report.
Ensure quality control for all civil and structural engineering projects during project implementation, including monthly progress reports to clients.
Implement risk management practices specific to each project to ensure health, safety, and environmental compliance.
Conduct regular audits and compliance checks to confirm adherence to quality standards and project requirements.
Performance and Accountability:
Develop comprehensive project plans, outlining scope, objectives, deliverables, timelines, and resource allocations, ensuring alignment with client needs and company standards.
Lead project kick-off meetings to align all team members, stakeholders, and clients on project goals, roles, and responsibilities.
Coordinate the integration of project management tools and software, ensuring all team members can monitor progress, communicate effectively, and access essential documents.
Conduct detailed risk assessments for each project phase to identify potential issues early, including timeline delays, resource shortages, or unforeseen costs, and proactively develop contingency plans.
Manage project schedules rigorously, balancing workload and resources to keep the project on track. Adjust plans and timelines as necessary, communicating updates to clients and stakeholders promptly.
Oversee procurement and resource allocation, ensuring that materials, equipment, and team capacity align with project requirements and milestones.
Perform quality control checks throughout the project lifecycle to ensure deliverables meet both client specifications and the company’s standards, addressing issues immediately as they arise.
Foster strong collaboration among project teams by facilitating regular progress meetings, ensuring all departments (engineering, finance, and administration) are aligned and updated on project status.
Conduct project close-out reviews to document lessons learned, assess project successes and areas for improvement, and gather client feedback to apply best practices to future projects.
Prepare and submit detailed project reports to the Divisional Head, summarizing milestones achieved, budget adherence, client satisfaction, and overall project performance.
Manage People and Accountability & Culture:
Manage project team members, providing guidance, feedback, and support to optimize performance.
Encourage a culture of accountability and continuous improvement among project team members.
Identify training and development needs to enhance team capabilities and project performance.
Client Relationship Management:
Serve as the primary point of contact for project-related client interactions, providing updates and addressing concerns promptly.
Develop strategies to build and maintain positive client relationships, ensuring expectations are met throughout the project lifecycle.
Requirements:
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Civil Engineering.
Minimum Experience:
- Minimum of 5 years of civil engineering design experience in infrastructure consulting or a similar field, with proven results in managing complex projects.
