Job Purpose
The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) will lead the organisation in fulfilling its strategic mandate to promote tourism in Gauteng, drive sustainable growth, and improve the tourism experience. The CEO will be responsible for the overall management, leadership, and development of the authority and will play a key role in the strategic planning and implementation of tourism policies and programs.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership and Strategy
Provide strategic direction and leadership to the organisation, ensuring the achievement of its mandate and vision.
Develop, implement, and oversee the execution of the organisation’s strategic plans, ensuring alignment with the broader goals of the provincial government.
Lead the development of policies and strategies that promote Gauteng as a premier tourist destination locally, regionally, and internationally.
Represent the organisation in engagements with key stakeholders, including government bodies, tourism partners, businesses, and international organizations.
Financial Management and Oversight
Oversee the development and management of the organisation’s budget, ensuring financial sustainability and compliance with government regulations.
Ensure efficient allocation of resources and financial accountability within the organization.
Monitor revenue generation activities, including partnerships, sponsorships, and tourism projects, to ensure profitability and growth.
Operational Management
Lead day-to-day operations of the organisation, ensuring that projects and initiatives are effectively implemented within budget and on schedule.
Ensure that the organisation operates in compliance with all applicable legislation, regulations, and best practices.
Manage and optimize the use of technology and digital platforms to enhance tourism services and outreach.
Stakeholder Engagement and Relationship Management
Build and nurture strong relationships with key stakeholders, including government officials, tourism boards, businesses, international travel agencies, and other tourism industry players.
Advocate for the tourism sector within the provincial government and national tourism bodies.
Strengthen partnerships with both public and private sector organizations to promote tourism and enhance Gauteng’s position in the global market.
Marketing and Public Relations
Oversee the development and implementation of marketing strategies and campaigns that effectively promote Gauteng’s tourism attractions, events, and experiences.
Act as the public face of the organisation and lead communications efforts to raise the profile of Gauteng as a tourism destination.
Ensure that the organisation maintains a positive image and reputation in the media and among the general public.
Tourism Development and Innovation
Identify new opportunities for tourism development in Gauteng and support the growth of existing tourism products.
Drive innovative approaches to tourism that address emerging trends, such as sustainable tourism, eco-tourism, and digital transformation.
Collaborate with local communities, businesses, and tourism operators to develop tourism infrastructure and products that meet international standards.
Team Management
Lead, motivate, and manage the team, fostering a positive and productive work environment.
Ensure the recruitment, training, and development of skilled staff to support the organisation's objectives.
Promote a culture of excellence, collaboration, and accountability within the organization.

Candidate Requirements
Qualifications and ExperienceMinimum Requirements:
A relevant postgraduate qualification in Business Administration, Tourism Management, Marketing, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).
A proven track record of at least 10 years in senior management or executive roles, preferably within the tourism or hospitality sectors.
Strong understanding of the South African tourism industry and its challenges, including international trends.
Demonstrated experience in financial management, strategic planning, and operations management.
Excellent communication, negotiation, and presentation skills.
Experience in managing a diverse team and fostering a collaborative work environment.
A passion for tourism and the development of Gauteng as a premier destination.
