Job Purpose
To execute and oversee multiple complex projects as a Data Analyst.
To ensure that relevant, high-quality data is available in a timely manner for various analytical processes.
The data analyst is responsible for understanding the business requirements for data, the related data flow, business processes and systems that generate the data required as well as the properties, profile and behaviour of the data. The primary goal is to enable the provisioning of the data into forms that make it usable for further analytical processing that enables decision-making processes and provides insights to business.
The Data Analyst is responsible to stream line the processes, from data collection to data ingestion and provisioning.
Through breadth of experience gained, support the professional development of junior data analysts through mentorship, perform quality reviews on team deliverables, and contribute to the overall data analysis practice as a key contributing member of the CoE. Where required, lead a team of data analysts fostering collaboration and maintaining high standards of work.
Job Responsibilities
- Perform data analysis activities across various squads/value chains.
- Liaise with business stakeholders to elicit and understand data requirements and translate them into technical analytical tasks, aligning efforts with business needs.
- Responsible for unpacking and understanding data, from analysing data flows, to data profiling, in order to troubleshoot data issues or create detailed documentation incorporating findings to provide specifications for downstream processes such as data ingestion, provisioning or other analytical processes.
- Perform data testing and validation activities such as Error Resolution, Data Quality Validation, Data Ingestion Configuration, and Data Life-cycle end to end validation.
- Make data-driven recommendations for data provisioning enhancements (data cleansing, transformation, and validation) based on discovery insights.
- Using data profiling techniques, contribute to the definition of data standards and identify potential data quality issues, report on, and propose possible solutions. Where applicable, drive or participate in cleansing initiatives.
- Drive understanding of the purpose, behaviour, and user interactions with the data to optimize self-service offerings and improve Nedbank users' experience in accessing data, provide support to users in understanding and accessing data.
- Ensure data analysis deliverables are delivered according to project plan and budget to meet commitment to stakeholders.
- Collaborate with various teams including Data Modelers, Data Engineers, Data Architects, Data Governance to align data discovery insights and implement complex data solutions.
- Ensure that data analysis activities adhere to regulatory requirements, maintaining compliance with all relevant data policies, privacy standards, and ownership guidelines.
- Utilize data discovery and profiling tools to enhance the data profiling process.
- Execute advanced SQL queries and other technical analyses to support data investigation and reporting.
- Develop and execute comprehensive data quality checks to identify anomalies or inconsistencies in data, and identify patterns, relationships, and trends that impact data management and utilization.
- Maintain up to date knowledge of latest developments in the Data Analysis domain, including reading; continuous professional development courses; seminars and conferences.
- Support the achievement of the business strategy, objectives, and values.
- Contribute to the Nedbank Culture building initiatives (e.g. staff surveys etc.).
- Participate and support corporate responsibility initiatives for the achievement of business strategy.
- Identify and drive opportunities to improve business processes, models, and systems though agile thinking.
- Provide Overall Data Management Guidance and alignment to Nedbank's Data Management framework and standards.
- Perform review on work performed by team members as well as review and govern work performed by other data teams.
- When required, lead a team of Junior data analyst, and manage day-to-day activities, allocation, growth, and development.
- Mentor, guide, and provide training to junior and entry-level Data Analysts to enhance their analytical and technical skills.

Essential Qualifications - NQF Level
- Advanced Diplomas/National 1st Degrees
Preferred Qualification

- Data Analysis and Data Modelling, Cloud (Azure, AWS), DEVOPS or Data engineering certification, DAMA, Any Data Science certification, SAS certification, SQL, any Microsoft Power tools will be an added advantage.

- Total number of years of experience:3-6 Years
Type of experience:
- Proficiency in SQL and experience with database management and data profiling tools.
- Skills in cleaning and preparing data for analysis to ensure accuracy and consistency
- Experience with data warehousing solutions to store and manage large volumes of data
- Firm understanding of ETL processes and data integration concepts.
- Firm understanding of data management and governance practices.
- Experience with data visualization and reporting tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI) is a plus.
- Basic knowledge of data modelling and data warehouse architectures (e.g., star schema, snowflake schema).
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
