Candidate Requirements
RAINBOW Chicken is recruiting for a Regional Supply Chain Manager for the KZN Region based in Hammarsdale, caretaking both the Processing & Agriculture business.
The role will be responsible to manage the delivery of both the short-term and longer-term regional supply plans (i.e., replenishment, warehousing, and transport) over a 24-month horizon capacity planning period to optimize customer service at minimal cost, maximize profit in terms of product mix, and facilitate the overall supply chain delivery of innovation.
Management of regional processing and agricultural planning team and the management of the short and long-term operational volume plan through the agricultural supply chain. This must be done to ensure a sufficient supply of breeders, eggs, chicks, and broiler birds in the supply chain and must be aligned with the business strategy.
Optimize Mtech functionality to leverage short and long-term planning insight and deliver the right targeted weight bird to the processing plant, while maximizing profitability and minimizing costs. Build a strong partnership between the regional agricultural, processing operational teams, and external customers.
Qualification & Experience
- Minimum of a degree in Supply Chain/ Operations management.
- MBA would be an added advantage.
- Valid Code EB drivers' licence
- A minimum of 3 years’ managerial experience in supply/demand planning in a FMCG environment.
Key Responsibilities
Strategy Execution
- Work as a member of the KZN Regional Exco and closely with the national supply chain team to co-create the regional supply chain strategy, based on strategic requirements.
- Work closely with cross-functional management teams to ensure the delivery of an integrated supply chain benefit and strategic target achievement.
- Anticipate supply risks and put contingencies in place to address them.
- Drive a culture of “planning for profit” by ensuring an understanding of how planning influences optimal deployment through the network.
- Deliver optimal customer service while maximising profitability and minimising supply chain costs. Inventory optimisation must be matched with transport cost minimisation.
- Identify and drive the implementation of all process, system and structure changes required to ensure that planning is implemented successfully.
- Compile and balance the quarterly forecast, yearly budgeted and 18 month rolling forecast volume plans for the regional supply chain.
- Volume plans will include breeders, hatcheries and broilers and must be aligned with the targeted weight and broiler birds required by the processing plant and/ or chick demand from external customers.
- Generate quarterly forecasted and yearly budgeted placement and slaughter schedules for the regional commercial teams to align Mtech volumes with timing of SAP forecasted and budgeted costs.
Supply Planning Management
- Work closely with the National Planning team to ensure the supply planning requirements are met in terms of weekly production plans.
- Ensure the correct Packaging and Ingredients are on site to meet the national supply plan
- Raise any risks that might affect delivery of the required production plan
- Control regional working capital in terms of packaging and ingredients
- Balance the production plan according to plant capacity
Short Term Supply Planning Management
- Manage the exceptions with regional supply planning, procurement, distribution and transport to ensure priorities are met and plans are executed as agreed.
- Anticipate problems and constraints in plan deliver and alignment and facilitate the resolution thereof
Breeders
- Maintain and update rearing placement schedules on an on-going basis.
- Maintain and update rearing to laying transfer schedule and laying depletion schedule on an on-going basis.
Hatcheries
- Balance and manage the egg bank on a daily basis to ensure a sufficient egg supply. This will include balancing the egg forecast, egg production and egg stock.
- Compile and manage the daily set plan for the regional hatcheries.
- Update the daily and weekly hatch forecast and manage the process to ensure a sufficient chick supply.
- Compile and manage the daily Broiler chick placement.
- Manage internal and external chick order schedules.
- Capture and process Sales Orders on Mtech for chick sales to all customers.
- Prepare, manage and distribute pre-set chick delivery advice to external customers.
- Prepare, manage and distribute customer pre-delivery chick advice & chick placement information.
Broilers
- Compile, manage and balance the daily, weekly and 5-week slaughter plan to ensure that the required slaughter volumes are delivered.
- Optimize the number of birds in the required weight range by taking proactive planning measures in conjunction with regional agriculture and processing operational teams.
- Coordinating and managing the weekly and monthly farm activity schedule to support the farm services contractors and the regional operational managers.
Stock Management
- Manage Regional stock covers, ensuring that the minimum and maximum days target covers are set in a manner that considers variability of both demand and supply (i.e. using an appropriate inventory planning model).
- Proactively manage regional stock age, slow moving and obsolete stock
- Work closely with the national planning team and sales teams to ensure that action is taken to prevent unnecessary costs.
- Using the SLA, hold the distribution centres and warehouse service providers accountable for stock management.
Inventory and Transactional Balancing
- Manage daily, weekly, cycle and monthly balancing of data captured by agriculture administrators on all Mtech modules to ensure the accuracy of data.
- Compile and authorise weekly reconciliations between Mtech modules (BIM, HIM & BRIM) to physical stock sheets from operations.
- This will include the following mandatory weekly reconciliations made on the standard
Rainbow templates:
- Breeder Volume Flow Recon (Birds and Eggs) and Hatchery Volume Flow Recon (Eggs)
- Broiler Volume Flow Recon (Birds and Mtech / Legacy Recon) Feed Inventory Recon (only applicable at month end)
- Balance weekly processing data (Legacy) to the Supply Chain report and Mtech.
- Completing, balancing and submitting the Supply Chain report to the Central Planning Co-coordinator on a weekly basis
Mtech Super User
- Act as the regional Mtech Super User.
- Manage and facilitate the training of staff on Mtech.
- Manage the resolving of transactional and inventory related queries on Mtech.
Replenishment Oversight
- Ensure that the supply planning team manages stock throughout the network in the most cost-effective manner to meet both customer service and cost targets.
- Agree and sign off the targeted stock holding on a periodic basis (quarterly) to ensure that space requirements and service levels are sufficiently met and to manage stock builds that exceed the agreed space allocations.
- Ensure, in conjunction with the branch replenishment teams, that slow moving and obsolete stocks are appropriately managed.
Sales and Operations Planning
- Drive the minimisation of supply gaps, as well as make recommendations on how these gaps could be closed.
- Consolidate and lead the regional view of supply planning as input into the S&OP process using the agreed formats.
- Work closely with the warehousing and transport teams to ensure that the outbound logistic plans are appropriately adhered to meet the demand plans.
- Using agreed KPI’s, drive continuous improvement within the inbound supply chain.
Warehousing and Transport
- Ensure sufficient space availability at regional level to meet anticipated stock holding. This forward warehouse requirements plan must be agreed monthly, on a rolling 12-month basis. Gaps and opportunities that arise through this collaborative work must be fed into the S&OP process during the supply planning review process done monthly.
Outbound Supply Chain Reporting
- Measure Regional KPI’s and issue monthly KPI reports that are shared appropriately within the regions and use the KPI’s to drive action plans where appropriate.
- Coordinate cross-functional teams (e.g. finance, distribution, supply planning, demand planning) to provide the required input into the monthly board pack that is required. This report is to be written up in the format required by the key stakeholders.
- Drive delivery of regional customer service within regional planning and distribution teams through effective KPI management.
Improvement and Innovation Facilitation
- Drive improvements in working capital and customer service by working with the supply planners and using appropriate stock modelling tools, regularly reviewing inputs (variability in demand and supply as well as capacity information like minimum batch sizes) and output from these models to ensure an appropriate stock holding policy in order to meet customer service level targets.
- Drive reductions on key cost drivers such as working capital, stock write-offs, transport and other stock variances.
Project Management
- Undertake and lead projects that may be assigned by the business from time- to-time.
Staff and Team Supervision
- Identify personnel requirements and participate in the selection process.
- Lead and develop staff within the context of the Labour Relations Act, Employment Equity Act, Basic Conditions of Employment Act and the Skills Development Act.
- Monitor staff performance and provide regular performance feedback.
- Manage staff activities, ensuring service levels are met and protocols are adhered to.
- Coach and support staff where necessary to achieve objectives.
- Manage staff leave and general time management issues in line with organisational deliverables and standards.
- Manage and deliver on career development and succession plans to enable the development of a future generation of leaders and specialists and ensure optimal turnover and retention levels are maintained.
- Champion staff training and development through the utilisation of available training opportunities or contributing to the development of new training solutions in collaboration with regional training specialists.
- Conduct regular performance appraisals with subordinates.
- Establish sound staff and labour organising and communication structures and systems.
- Lead the team towards meeting the strategy and targets through regular communication and utilisation of the full organisational talent management tool set.
- Address poor performance in individuals and teams in accordance with company policy and the relevant legislation.
- Conduct regular meetings and ensure that records are kept and shared across the team and that action plans agreed to within team meetings are delivered upon.
