- Develop, implement, and manage the Environmental Management System (EMS) in alignment with ISO 14001 standards and other applicable regulations.
- Monitor and ensure compliance with local, national, and international environmental laws, policies, and regulations specific to the oil and gas industry.
- Conduct regular audits, inspections, and assessments to evaluate compliance and identify areas for improvement.
- Establish and maintain relationships with regulatory authorities, ensuring timely reporting and resolution of compliance issues.
- Develop and maintain a governance framework to ensure alignment with corporate policies and industry best practices.
- Draft, update, and enforce environmental policies and procedures to minimize risks and enhance operational sustainability.
- Provide guidance and training to staff and contractors on environmental compliance and governance policies.
- Review and integrate governance requirements into business operations and projects.
- Identify potential environmental risks and implement mitigation strategies.
- Manage incident investigations related to environmental non-compliance or breaches, ensuring corrective and preventive actions are implemented.
- Prepare reports and recommendations for senior management on compliance status and risks.
- Lead efforts to improve environmental performance and sustainability across operations.
- Develop strategies to reduce the organization's carbon footprint and promote energy efficiency.
- Coordinate with internal and external stakeholders to drive sustainability programs and initiatives.
- Ensure accurate documentation of compliance activities, audit results, and corrective actions.
- Prepare comprehensive compliance and governance reports for management and stakeholders.
- Keep up-to-date with industry developments and regulatory changes.
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Governance & Compliance Manager (Environmental Management Systems) to join our client’s team in the oil and gas industry. The successful candidate will play a critical role in ensuring the organization's compliance with environmental regulations and standards while driving governance initiatives to promote sustainable practices and operational excellence.

Candidate Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Management, Engineering, or a related field.
- Minimum of 8 years of experience in governance and compliance within the oil and gas industry, with specific experience in EMS.
- Strong knowledge of ISO 14001 standards and environmental legislation in South Africa.
- Proven experience in implementing and managing environmental management systems.
- Familiarity with risk assessment and mitigation processes in industrial environments.
- Certification in environmental management or compliance (e.g., ISO Lead Auditor) is an advantage.
- Excellent understanding of environmental regulations and industry standards.
- Strong leadership and communication skills to engage with diverse stakeholders.
- Analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
- Proficient in preparing detailed reports and presenting findings to management.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and prioritize tasks effectively.
