Introduction

This position will be based in the Saldanha Bay Municipality area in the Western Cape.

Description

The purpose of this position is to be responsible to assist in the sampling or collection of geological ore samples and the preparation of samples in order to obtain accurate results to monitor expected performance and the achievement of objectives in the organisation.

Duties and Responsibilities

Identifying and capturing geological ore samples
Assistance in Geo-Metallurgical Mapping:
Help create geo-metallurgical maps by linking geological data with metallurgical performance indicators.
Support the team in identifying zones with distinct metallurgical characteristics to aid in operational planning.
Perform routine preparation of samples (crushing, pulverizing, filtering, rolling, splitting and drying)
Lab scale ore performance tests through bench flotation
Reporting of ore performance tests
Updating sample reports and database
Cleaning of laboratory equipment and instruments
Perform sieve sizing analyses on samples as part of sample preparation
Maintain a high standard of housekeeping
Maintain a high standard of housekeeping
Perform all sample preparation as per Safe Work instructions to ensure accurate results to the Client and stakeholders
Adhere to quality requirements, verifications, calibrations, certifications of equipment
Liaise with internal stakeholders according to Laboratory requirements and organizational policies
Meet key stakeholders’ requirements and expectations
Ensure compliance with WCPO / Client Health and Safety responsibilities and legal operational requirements
Identify hazards and risk while performing daily tasks and maintenance and take preventative measures
Conduct visual inspections of the work area to ensure workplace safety
Comply with provided systems, practices, methods, standards and procedures of the job
Comply with statutory legislation and operational requirements

Qualification Requirements

Grade 12
Computer Literate in MS Office

Experience and Skills Requirements

Minimum 1 years’ experience in sample preparation in a laboratory is required
Knowledge and good understanding of the basic concepts of sample preparation, e.g. contamination, representative sample and integrity of a sample
Computer Literacy
English language proficiency
Time management skills
