Purpose of Position:

You will form part of the human molecular division. This position will entail extractions, PCR, capillary electrophoresis, array, sequencing, analysis and reporting. You will be responsible for the diagnostic and/or profiling testing.

Key Responsibilities:

• Complying  with the correct procedures, policies, and health and safety regulations by working within the laboratory management system
• Performing of appropriate Molecular techniques including profiling and diagnostic processing and analysis
• Accurate checking, handling, preparation and processing of various specimens
• Operation of genetic analysers
• Operate and ensure proper functioning of laboratory instruments and equipment
• Maintaining clean and orderly work area
• Maintain efficient record-keeping system within area of responsibility
• Correct storing, handling and disposal of biological samples and dangerous/toxic substances
• Correct analysing, interpretation and reporting of results
• Training and development of new staff members and students
• Ensuring quality control and SANAS compliance adherence at all times
• Performing internal and external proficiency testing and contributing to a successful result
• Contributing to validation of new tests
• Participate in the Continuing Professional Development (CPD) activities within the laboratory to contribute to staff development and in compliance with HPCSA/SACNASP requirements
• Staying informed with the latest trends, techniques, and best practices
• Contributing ideas of how to develop cost effective test methods by optimising protocols and procedures regularly (revising SOP’s)
• Identifying deviations and initiate change to Procedures, SOP’s and methods.
• Responding to queries within a reasonable time     
• Helping members of team with lab work if you have available time
