An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Shore based Electrician at I&J, Waterfront, Cape Town. The purpose of this role is to provide electrical services, identify repair, replacement and maintenance needs and upgrade any electrical systems and equipment where need be. To also assist other skilled trades on site and ensure that tools and materials are available on site.

Key Performance Areas:
Maintenance of equipment and electrical system

• Review process and instrumentation diagram, schematics and electrical drawings fault finding and problem solving
• Carry out repairs on electrical components and systems as example: Motors, circuits, transformers, generators, compressors, switches, intercom systems and vessel equipment

Inspections on electrical systems and data recording

• Inspection on electrical equipment and systems installation for safety and correct operation
• Recording and reporting findings and deviations on electrical installations

• Record electrical power usage for the quayside facility

Modification and upgrades on electrical equipment and systems

• Carry out electrical systems installations, modifications and upgrades
• Testing of electrical systems and continuity of circuits in electrical wiring, equipment and fixtures using electrical testing devices

Monitor external service providers work standards

• Monitor outside contractors electrical work performed on site
• Monitor progress on work performed by external contractors to ensure that they are working safely, efficiently and effectively

Support continuous operation of vessel and quayside operations

• Respond to emergencies during and after hours to resolve immediate safety concerns
• Maintain assigned equipment and tools to ensure availability and good working condition
• Participates in meetings, workshops, training, and seminars as assigned to convey and or gather information required to perform job functions
• Coordinate with assigned Foreman and or other trades to complete projects and work orders timeously
• Informs colleagues regarding safe working procedures to provide information for decision making and taking appropriate actions
• Comply with Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) and building regulations

Minimum Requirements:

Experience:

• 5 years’ experience in the maritime environment
• Proficient in instrumentation diagram, Schematics and electrical drawings
• Knowledge of Scantrol, Rolls Royce & Pentagon winch system will be an advantage

Qualifications:

• Grade 12
• Electrical Degree (Red Seal qualification)

Additional requirements:

• Exposure to Marine or Fishing vessels would be advantageous
• Own transport
