The Faculty of Law is looking to fill a vacancy in the Department of Public Law. The main responsibility of the incumbent will be to contribute to excellence in the Faculty of Law. The incumbent will lecture in Public International Law and one or more additional specialised areas of law such as Constitutional Law, Interpretation of Statutes, and Legal Philosophy, but may also be required to fulfil further teaching responsibilities within the Department and Faculty, considering relevant factors. The incumbent will furthermore conduct research, which includes a focus on Public International Law, and provide postgraduate supervision in specialised areas of law covered by the Department, specifically in Public International Law. The incumbent must also contribute to the administrative functioning of the Faculty, and perform other duties as assigned by the Faculty.
The Department of Public Law is responsible for teaching several of the core modules in the undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in the Faculty of Law, including Constitutional Law, Human Rights Law, Public International Law, Legal Philosophy, Interpretation of Statutes, Public Procurement Law, Integrated Legal Studies, Criminal Law, and matters related to the Criminal Justice System. The Department places emphasis on quality teaching and postgraduate supervision in these areas. The Department also has a strong focus on research and social impact.
Duties:
• Lecturing undergraduate modules in die Department of Public Law, including Public International Law as well as, but not limited to, Interpretation of Statutes and/or Legal Philosophy.
• Actively researching, writing and publishing in the assigned field(s) of law, with a focus on Public International Law.
• Postgraduate supervision in Public International Law and other specialised areas covered by the Department.
• Contributing to the administrative functioning of the Department and Faculty.
• Performing such other duties as assigned by the Faculty.
