Reporting to the General Manager, Deputizes for the Refrigeration Manager
Job Profile:
Responsible for the maintenance employees and all maintenance related issues ensuring that all maintenance needs are addressed timeously and efficiently.
Duties/Responsibilities:
DAILY:
a. Communicates directly with the department managers to coordinate maintenance and repair in production areas according to job cards, scheduled maintenance, services and breakdowns.
b. Responsible for daily checks and maintenance in the plant room, transformer room, generator room, ventilation room, main water pump room and roofs 1-3.
c. Communicates directly with department managers to ensure that job cards REC 5.2 are received and carried out according to the job card procedure, closed off and filed accordingly.
d. Maintains and updates operating procedures and training sheets of maintenance employees for monitoring and maintenance of plant equipment and systems and servicing thereof to minimize downtime.
e. Supervise and delegate maintenance work to maintenance employees.
f. Communicates regularly with all maintenance technicians, suppliers and contractors, both individually and as a group, to ensure good two-way communication concerning maintenance requirements and issues.
g. Initiates and carries out projects that improve efficiency and/or reduce operating costs.
h. Allocation of job cards to all maintenance employees.
i. Responsible for conducting monthly/ weekly/daily (as per records) inspections of all the areas in the facility inclusive of all the electrical units and systems and ensuring the maintenance thereof.
j. Negotiate pricing with suppliers.
k. Requesting quotations from suppliers and placing of orders with procurement for spare parts.
l. Synchronizing work processes with other divisions of the abattoir to minimize risk of increased production time.
m. Ensuring slaughter equipment parameters and setting are correct.
n. Ensuring deboning equipment parameters and settings are correct.
o. Responsible for the hygiene management systems in the workshop (Meat Act)
p. Responsible for the management and coordination of the preventative maintenance program and schedule as per relevant regulations and that legal certification is up to date.
q. Arrange necessary calibrations and inspections to ensure that the company is in accordance with all regulations. (Electrical and Mechanical).
r. Responsible for monitoring the work of contractors onsite and reporting to senior management.
s. Verifies that the ventilation system is functional before and during production.
t. Ensuring that geysers and heat pump are operational for production.
u. Ensuring that all de-hiders are collected, cleaned and checked for the following day.
v. Verifying that sharpening of knives for all departments is done
w. Management of staff in the department and ensure discipline and adherence to Code of conduct and company policies and procedures.
WEEKLY
a. Attend weekly strategic meetings with senior management.
b. Plan, coordinate and approve necessary weekend/ down time work.
c. Standby every second week, starting Monday at 07:00 ending Monday at 07:00 of the following week.
d. Testing of generators.
e. Completing of check sheets (in absence of refrigeration manager).
f. Spot check all maintenance check sheet. (In absence of refrigeration manager).
MONTHLY
a. Calculation of solar power generated, send data to financial Director.
b. Maintains and updates operating procedures and training sheets of maintenance employees.
c. Servicing of maintenance equipment.
ANNUAL
a. Review and amend maintenance schedules and records ensuring working documentation is correct for the following year starting in January.
b. Present trending on job cards, breakdowns for annual management review.
c. Preparing a summary of all projects completed and pending for management review.
AD-HOC:
a. Training of new personnel and further training of current personnel with regard to procedures/records and standard operating procedures pertaining to maintenance equipment.
b. Attending farm needs, breakdowns and projects when required.
c. Completion of corrective action reports.
d. Updating SLA’s and filling in conjunction with QA manager.
e. Ensuring all contractors and suppliers complete the necessary paperwork as per PRO 5.3
f. Repot computer and electronic device problems to the accountant.
g. Responsible for implementation of programs and procedures required to ensure plant maintenance and sustainability of equipment and assets.
h. Assists with planning and implementing plant improvements, expansions and new equipment.
i. Responsible for minimizing unplanned downtime (breakdown), problem solving in a timely manner, and identifying and motivating opportunities for improvement.
j. Responsible for maintenance, repair and servicing work shop equipment.
k. Ad hoc work can be allocated at any time as per discretion of general manager, responsibilities are not limited to the responsibilities listed and more can be added as long as they are lawful.
l. Attend monthly Food Safety Management team meetings.
CHECKSHEETS AND PREVENTIVE MAINTENANCE:
a. Check sheets to be completed as per addendum 1 Doc 1.11.8 and Doc 1.11.9 in the absence of the refrigeration manager.
b. The refrigeration manager’s check sheets shall be completed in his absence.
c. Preventative maintenance to be carried out as per preventive maintenance check sheets.
d. The refrigeration manager’s preventive maintenance to be carried out in his absence as per Preventive maintenance check sheets.
HR DUTIES:
a. Attending weekly meetings with the wages clerk to sign off time sheets.
b. Attending disciplinary hearings as a committee representative when required.
C. Ensuring overtime is completed and signed off by senior management.
d. Issuing verbal and written warnings and disciplinary hearings.
e. Completion of leave forms.

Candidate Requirements
Formal Qualification: Red Seal Electrical qualification, HACCP training, Scaffolding, First Aid, Matric certificate or equivalent, Vehicle licensePersonal Attributes/ Skills:
Experience:
a. Experience in Arc and gas welding
b. Preferable experience in food management systems
c. Experience in plumbing
d. Experience with slaughter equipment
e. Knowledge of waste water system
f. Knowledge of drinking water system and standards
g. Experience with pressure vessels and regulations
h. Experience with Brazing & gas cutting
i. Experience in Hydraulic and pneumatic valves, also servicing of pneumatic equipment.
j. Experience with variable speed drives and soft starters, mostly ABB and OMRON
k. Experience with programmable logic controllers mostly Siemens and Omron
l. Experience with food processing equipment, vacuum machines
m. Experience with automation on conveyors and overhead lines.
