We seek an experienced Electrician to join our client's team in Durban. The successful candidate will ensure equipment availability, reliability, and efficiency through hands-on technical expertise, inspections, preventative maintenance, and continuous improvement of electrical and instrument equipment.

- Ensure periodic preventive maintenance (PM) inspections and testing are carried out on all electrical and Instrument equipment on site in line with the terminal's scheduled preventive maintenance plans.
- Attend breakdown/corrective maintenance (CM) for all electrical and Instrument equipment on site as a first responder to breakdowns.
- Supervise external electrical contractors who will be carrying out preventive maintenance (PM) or corrective maintenance (CM) work on any electrical equipment on-site to ensure the work is carried out in line with legal requirements and company standards.
- Be the electrical Lock Out Tag Out Champion at the terminal, ensuring that LOTO is in place on any electrical equipment that is being worked on at the terminal, in line with company LOTO Standards.
- Verify the completion of all work by an external electrical contractor on any inspection, and service repairs that will have been carried out on electrical equipment at the terminal and ensure that the work completion certificate is signed off by all parties, if the work has been completed to the required standard.
- Advise the Maintenance Lad and or Maintenance Planner of any observed potential future failure points on installed electrical or Instrument equipment on site to proactively resolve before actual failure occurs.
- Required to carry out Standby duties and be readily available for breakdowns that occur outside normal working hours of the Maintenance Department.
- Familirise with reading and understanding piping and Instrumentation Drawings (PID), loop drawings, and motor electric schematic drawings.
- Equipment to be maintained, inspected and repaired.
Requirements:
- Minimum 5 years working experience as a qualified artisan in a chemical storage terminal, preferably with exposure to the petrochemical industry
- Must have a clear understanding of working in an “Explosive Zoned” classified area working with ex-certified equipment, and working with and around explosive and flammable equipment and environment
- Must have experience with the maintenance and operation of petrochemical equipment and terminal
- Must be able to work with minimal supervision and be available to perform standby duties when the need arises
- Must have an understanding of and ability to apply and follow the health and safety regulations (OHS Act) in the workplace
