1. Create effective maintenance strategies to ensure that production stoppages are kept to an absolute minimum
2. Develop and implement policies, standards and procedures for the engineering and technical work performed in the department
3. Ensure quality of the production through preventative maintenance strategies
4. Ensuring that the correct maintenance strategies are employed to extend the lifecycle of machines and equipment
5. Hire, train, and supervise engineering staff members. Monitor and determine various staffing and training needs
6. Overall engineering responsibility for the plant
7. Propose and oversee budgets, approving expenditure, and making decisions about the purchase of materials and/or services
8. Translate business objectives into functional capital projects and lead to completion
9. Propose and oversee timelines for engineering projects. Serve as the engineering leader and technical expert
10. Spearhead various research and development initiatives to identify opportunities for new projects and improved processes
11. Set engineering, maintenance and process targets
12. Assist with the development of capital project plans and the operational management thereof to ensure on time completion within specification and Capex parameters
13. Be cognisant of current maintenance best practices and the ability to implement these in line with legislative parameters
14. Responsible for Mechanical and Electrical maintenance, Reliability, Engineering and Planning
15. Ensure compliance with governance and procedures
16. Ensure compliance with safety, health and environment standards
17. People management of external contractors and professional services
18. Monitor and manage energy usage (Electricity and Gas)
Required Skills
- Plant Engineer: 5 to 6 years
- Government Certificate Of Competency: 5 to 6 years
Candidate Requirements
1. Degree in Engineering (preferably Electrical)
2. Government Certificate of Competency (GCC) Factories
3. Production methods and processes;
4. In-depth knowledge of engineering principles, standards and maintenance management system
5. Technical proficiency across design, installation, commissioning, and plant operation
6. Basic Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) principles and/or Reliability Cantered Maintenance (RCM)
7. Good working understanding of electrical and mechanical principles that support equipment operations
8. In depth knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety Act No. 85 of 1993
9. OHSAS 18001 or ISO 45001 Occupational Health and Safety Standard
10. ISO 14001 Environmental Management Systems
11. Lean management concepts and tools
12. Understanding of South African Labour Laws
13. Personnel Management
14. ISO 9001 Quality Management Standard and related systems
15. Sound knowledge and understanding of contract management and the provision of services
16. Trouble shooting and root cause analysis skills
17. Project management
18. Risk management and Governance
19. Budgeting; forecasting; cashflow control and reporting
20. People management and technical leadership skills
