Reserve Management services and Ecological services must be developed so their implementation can further enhance overall management and monitoring techniques and procedures to be used on the reserve. These services must be implemented and managed and be able to train ecological and other management and staff on how to apply, interpret and report on the data obtained by these service divisions. As Reserve Manager the successful applicant is expected to also continuously review the suitability and effectiveness of all management & monitoring techniques from time to time to ensure they continue to be applied on, and based on being related to adaptive management assumptions using the latest acceptable reserve management and ecological monitoring theory, and be cost effective and appropriate for application by Reserve Management staff. The successful applicant for the position of Reserve Manager will report to the General Manager, Operations,The responsibilities for the position include: Reserve management: conservation of animals and plants, ecology, animal population dynamics, supplement feeding program of large herbivores, predator-prey dynamics (lion reserve), security/anti-poaching program, education, aerial game census, game capture, animal well-being, eradication of alien plants, bush encroachment program, controlled burning, firebreaks, sustainable use of water resources, responsible for liaison with Government Department of Environmental Affairs, liaison with other stake holders (garden services, contractors and neighboring reserves). Represent reserve at numerous conservation organizations (WAG, CAG, Limf, WRSA etc) as well as at local community level e.g. police forums, fire protection associations etc. Previous experience in the NPO milieu an Reserve maintenance: perimeter fence, road network, water reticulation and waste Personnel management: staff, employment of staff, leave roster, designation of duties, duty rosters, work performance evaluation, disci...
The above position will suite a candidate who is self-motivated, can work independently and is honest by nature.
At least 5 years of proven success working in the relevant field and experience on all MS Office programs is required, with preference given to applicants with experience on Arcview. The minimum qualification is a B-Tech Nature Conservation degree (or similar qualification) with preference to M-Tech applicants.
A market related salary is offered for the position and the package includes accommodation, work vehicle, 5% company funded provident fund and 50% company funded medical aid.
