The Department - Description of the Department
Main Objectives
All academics are responsible for disseminating knowledge (teaching and learning), creating knowledge (research), community engagement, and professional involvement in their field beyond the university, recognizing differences in executing these responsibilities within the various departments and Faculties. Academics are also expected to assume administrative, management, and/or leadership duties at the departmental, Faculty, and/or University levels. The Science Extended Studies program (SESP) has three courses: Mathematics Foundation (MAT 1F), Computer Skills for Science (CSS 1S), and Introduction to Science Concepts and Methods (ISCM). While the mathematics course is in the Mathematics Department, the other two are in the Extended Studies Unit. |

Remuneration per annum (Grade SL):
Basic Pensionable Salary per annum: R742 411
Cost to Company per annum (Approximately): R960 928
