- Shipping and Financial
- Coordinate Import Operations: Liaise with international suppliers and vendors to facilitate the timely shipment of goods.
- Manage Logistics and Transportation: Optimize transportation methods and routes to ensure efficient and cost-effective import processes.
- Ensure Regulatory Compliance: Ensure all import activities comply with customs regulations, trade laws, and international standards.
- Handle Documentation: Oversee the preparation and accuracy of all necessary import documentation, including bills of lading, invoices, and customs declarations.
- Negotiate with Carriers: Negotiate rates and contracts with shipping carriers, freight forwarders, and other logistics providers.
- Monitor Shipments: Track and monitor the status of inbound shipments, both Sea Freight and Air Freight, to ensure on-time delivery and address any delays or issues.
- Update Shipment Status: Update the working documents such as Purchase Orders and Shipping Records on the ERP system. Update shipping dates and calculate and maintain payment dates of invoices based on Supplier Terms.
- Manage Relationships: Maintain strong relationships with customs brokers, freight forwarders, and other key stakeholders.
- Resolve Issues: Address and resolve any problems related to shipment delays, damages, or compliance violations.
- Optimize Costs: Analyse import costs and implement strategies to reduce expenses and improve cost efficiency.
- Maintain Records: Keep accurate and up-to-date records of all import transactions, shipments, and related activities. Update the online tracker of shipments, payments and hedging instruments.
- Implement Policies: Develop and enforce shipping policies and procedures to streamline import operations.
- Collaborate Across Departments: Work closely with procurement, sales, production, and other departments to align import activities with company goals.
- Risk Management: Identify and mitigate risks associated with international shipping, such as geopolitical issues, currency fluctuations, and supply chain disruptions.
- Continuous Improvement: Continuously assess and improve import processes to enhance efficiency, reliability, and performance.
- Effectively Manage the Shipping Team: Assess performance, timeliness and development of internal shipping team.
Candidate Requirements
- Tertiary Qualification in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, International Business or a Related Field.
- 5+ years of experience in shipping, logistics, or supply chain management.
- Specific experience in managing import transactions and international shipping.
- Excellent Microsoft Office skill level required.
- Good interpersonal skills and the ability to work within a team
- Proficiency in logistics software and shipment tracking systems.
- In-depth understanding of customs regulations and international trade compliance.
- Fluent in English
- Willingness to stay updated on global shipping and trade regulations.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
- Excellent communication and negotiation abilities.
- Strong mathematical and analytical skills required.
