HEAD OF HUMAN RESOURCES ROLE AVAILABLE IN DURBANOur client is a family-owned and run export trading business based in Durban that has been in existence for the last 52 years. They specialize in the export of FMCG's, fruit and vegetables, wines and building materials to about 55 countries throughout the world, and have subsidiary businesses in various other countries they are involved in.We seek an experienced and driven Head of Human Resources to take their HR Division to the next level, lead their human resources initiatives and contribute to the success of their organisation. This role offers the opportunity to continue to drive positive changes in employee relations, performance management, and more. The ideal candidate will be responsible for enhancing employee performance, and must have a strong background in HR management, a deep understanding of employment laws and regulations, and excellent interpersonal skills. This position will be based in our Durban office and will be responsible to oversee the organizations' HR department.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Management of the HR team (currently HR Officer, Payroll Administrator and HR Administrator).
- Company Culture: Take a critical look at the company culture and work with senior management to suggest and implement changes to consistently improve how our employees feel about the environment.
- Employee Relations: Create positive employee relations by addressing employee inquiries, concerns, and conflicts. Provide guidance and support to employees on HR policies, procedures, and employment-related matters. Conduct investigations and take appropriate actions to resolve employee issues.
- HR Policy and Development: Assist in the development and implementation of HR policies, procedures and programs. Have a detailed look at the current policies and procedures to see if anything can be developed further.
- Performance Management: Support the performance management process by coordinating performance appraisals, goal-setting, and feedback sessions. Assist in the development and implementation of performance improvement plans and employee development programs.
- Training and Development: Communicate to the Executive team what opportunities are available to maximise SEETA benefits. Develop a strategy/policy and work with HR Officer to implement.
- Compliance: Stay up to date on current Labour Law and ensure compliancy with all the various laws. Identify gaps and close them.
- Compensation and Benefits: employee compensation and benefits programs, including salary reviews, incentives, and employee benefits enrollment. Manage the payroll administrator to ensure accurate payroll processing.
- HR Reporting: Prepare HR reports and analytics on key HR metrics, such as employee turnover, recruitment, training, and performance. Provide insights and recommendations based on data analysis to support informed decision-making.
- IR: Ensure that any disputes between the employees and the employer are dealt with swiftly and represent the company at CCMA hearings.
- Visas: Ensure that all Expat staff have the correct visas and assist them in getting the correct documentation to apply for the correct visa. Develop a system to monitor the status of each expat employee to ensure timeous applications for new visas.
- Employment Equity and BBEEE: Ensure compliancy with the EE Act and develop a strategy to present to the executive to become BBEEE compliant.
- Review and Develop HR intranet areas. Including internal advertising for open positions and Newsfeed protocol.
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in human resources management, organizational behaviour or development, organizational psychology, or a similar field.
- Proven experience as an HR Manager or similar role, with a track record of successful HR management. (5-8 years).
- In-depth knowledge of South African labour laws, regulations, and HR best practices.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build rapport at all levels of the organization.
- Excellent problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
- Exceptional organisational skills and attention to detail.
- Good knowledge of labour legislation (particularly employment contracts, employee leaves and insurance).
- Have an empathetic and caring nature with excellent people skills.
- Conflict Management skills and ability
