Position Overview: As a Senior Risk Officer in the South African FMCG industry, you will play a pivotal role in identifying, assessing and mitigating risks associated with a fully integrated food production business. Your expertise will be critical in ensuring that our operations are conducted responsibly and profitably in a dynamic and challenging industry landscape.
Key Responsibilities:
- Enterprise Risk Management
- Maintain and review Enterprise Risk Management policies, frameworks and procedures
- Continuously monitor and track risks to ensure that the risk management strategies and controls are effective.
- Promote risk awareness and understanding throughout the organisation.
- Communicate risk-related information to key stakeholders, provide training and education on risk management principles and practices, and foster a risk-aware culture within the organisation.
- Establish and maintain Risk Governance structures including risk champions, risk working groups, committees and forums.
- Risk Assessment and Management:
- Conduct comprehensive risk assessments across various aspects of fully-integrated supply chain functions across multiple sites.
- Establish risk monitoring systems, collect relevant data, and provide regular reports to management and stakeholders on the status of risks, mitigation efforts, and emerging trends
- Develop risk management strategies and action plans to mitigate identified risks effectively.
- Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of risk mitigation measures and adjust strategies as necessary.
- Risk Control and Risk Transfer
- Manage risk control and insurance programs in conjunction with the business’ insurance brokers and risk consultants
- Manage compliance with adopted risk management standard
- Coordinate and review underwriting surveys and reporting
- Collate and consolidate all underwriting information
- Manage insurance claims process
- Crisis Management and Business Continuity:
- Develop contingency plans and protocols for responding to emergencies
- Coordinate crisis response efforts across departments to minimize operational disruptions and reputational damage.
- Conduct post-incident reviews and implement improvements to crisis management protocols.
- Conduct regular business impact assessments in line with business continuity management framework and plan
Required Skills and Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree with Finance, Economics, Engineering, Business Administration, Risk Management, Legal or related fields. A Master’s degree or relevant professional certifications (e.g., CRM, ARM) is preferred.
- Experience: At least 5-7 years of progressive experience in risk management, preferably within the FMCG industry or related sectors.
- Analytical Skills: Strong analytical abilities with the ability to interpret complex data, conduct risk assessments, and develop data-driven risk management strategies.
- Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey complex information clearly and concisely to diverse stakeholders.
- Leadership: Proven leadership and team management skills, with the ability to lead cross-functional teams and influence decision-making processes.
- Adaptability: Ability to thrive in a fast-paced and evolving industry environment, demonstrating resilience and adaptability to changing regulatory requirements and market conditions.
Working Conditions: This position is based in Cape Town and may require travel to various sites in the Western Cape. The role may involve occasional extended hours and on-call availability during critical periods.
