Our client is a dynamic and ambitious family owned and run export trading business based in Durban that has been in existence for the last 52 years. They specialize in the export of FMCG's, fruit and vegetables, meat, wines and building materials to over 55 countries throughout the world. They are seeking an experienced individual to fulfil the role of Fruit Buyer based in Tyger valley, Cape Town.We are looking for a determined and dedicated person who has a positive attitude and who will consistently ensure a good working relationship between them and its Fruit (and vegetable) suppliers. This person will also be responsible for developing existing relationships and finding new and relevant suppliers where required.
- Key responsibilities include but not limited to the following:
- Purchasing of deciduous and citrus fruit with more of a focus on the deciduous fruit and less on citrus
- Developing relationships with new and existing South African suppliers/ farmers.
- Price negotiations with growers and packhouses
- Implementation of seasonal programs
- Quality control
- Dealing with claims and negotiating the best settlement for our clients
- Reporting on the availability and range of the fruit (and vegetables) to our Business Development Managers.
- Extensive knowledge of local South African fruit (and vegetable) growers and packhouses
- Extensive knowledge of international fruit (and vegetable) growers and packhouses
- At least 5 years experience in the procurement / buying field
- Experience in building relationships with growers and a successful track record of doing so
- Experience in negotiating and implementing systems
- Extensive knowledge of fruit (and vegetables), their seasonality and quality standards
- A successful track record in the fruit procurement field
- Experience in the exportation of Fruit (and vegetables) would be a plus
- Good computer and excel skills. Have had previous experience in reporting and presentations.
