Reporting to the Operations Manager
Job Purpose
To effectively manage the company's Underground operations, ensure optimal customer satisfaction and sustainable growth, whilst adhering to applicable regulations, policies and procedures to maintain compliance with the necessary standards.

UNDERGROUND OPERATIONS AND PROCESS MANAGEMENT:
Develop and implement the strategy for Underground operations, designed to achieve financial growth and profit targets, whilst ensuring alignment with overall business objectives.
In collaboration with the OM, guide and direct the execution of the business and operational plan for the Department to ensure sustainable growth and achievement of financial targets.
Identify and maximise sales opportunities and increased customer retention rates.
Establish sales goals by forecasting annual sales quotas and projecting expected sales volume for existing and new products.
Analyse sales and financial performances and FM’s to effectively plan for increased future and current business opportunities, while identifying obvious weak trends.
Collect, organise, analyse and report clear and concise financial information (daily, monthly and annually) to the OM and applicable stakeholders to support efficient company operations.
Develop, review, update and implement the necessary systems, plans, policies, and procedures to achieve work productivity, efficiency and quality output.
Support other Departments and Functions in the analysis and resolution of mining, engineering design and construction problems.
Strive for continuous improvement whilst keeping abreast of new developments to contribute to technological advancement, cost savings and maintaining competitive advantage
PROJECT MANAGEMENT:
Manage projects, outline project plans, set project goals / deadlines, and continuously evaluate progress and performance.
Attend to and provide support during Underground, Engineering and development projects.
Prepare clear and concise reports (daily, monthly, and annually) to report operations and project progress to OM and applicable stakeholders
Manage and oversee project phases from design to implementation.
Evaluate and complete projects with minimum risk, within allocated timeframes and according to specified budgetary requirements
COMPLIANCE AND GOVERNANCE:
Ensure compliance with regulations, legislation, quality standards, policies and standard operating procedures and protocol to ensure tasks are executed and completed in the prescribed manner.
Ensure personal health, safety and security of work colleagues is maintained by enforcing the necessary regulations such as corporate HSE as primary criterium.
Ensure confidentiality of information is always maintained by monitoring the operation of controls and procedures to ensure the integrity of the company.
Identify departmental risks, develop and maintain a risk and asset register to record incidents toward preventing future reoccurrence.
FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT:
Prepare in collaboration with the OM, the operational budget (incl. SG&A) and forecasting for the Department, manage and maintain, and ensure alignment with business objectives.
Lead the Department with the goal to increase growth, quarterly sales and achieve EBIT & EBITDA targets.
Evaluate, monitor and continuously seek to improve operations, financial performance and opportunity to reduce cost.
Provide solutions to issues (e.g. profit decline, employee conflicts, loss of business to competitors).
Monitor expenditure against budget and ensure spending occurs within business plan, budgetary, SLA, contractual limits and company's financial guidelines, report deviations to the OM.
Administer contracts and settle contract disputes as required
STAKEHOLDER RELATIONSHIP MANAGEMENT:
Establish and maintain effective stakeholder relations to ensure the sustainability of relationships as well as credibility between managers, peers, team members, customers and suppliers.
Travel monthly and perform customer site / Underground visits toward providing technical support, managing projects and building relationships.
Represent the company in meetings with stakeholders.
Identify and solve problems creatively whilst demonstrating a high level of integrity in line with the company's core values.
Provide advice and guidance to Management on internal stakeholder related matters.
Manage relationships in accordance with policies, procedures and legal requirements.
Implement and monitor an effective stakeholder management system to always uphold professionalism
PEOPLE MANAGEMENT:
Monitor and measure performance quarterly by conducting employee appraisals.
Identify areas of development and draw up action plans to address poor performance.
Ensure ongoing training, development, recruitment and assessment of employees.
Compile and implement the Workplace Skills Plan and Skills Development Plan on an annual basis.
Address employee relations matters fairly and promptly
Set performance objectives for team by cascading of the organisation’s initiatives into individual performance contracts.
Ensure that all employees have signed performance agreements.
Improve performance, proactivity and professionalism of staff through coaching, mentoring and training of staff / new sales professionals, to maintain company sales visibility and growth success

Candidate Requirements
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:Minimum: Operations Management or a technical discipline such as Mining, Engineering or related field
Preferred: Certificate or Diploma in Project Management
Minimum: 8 years, at least 5 years should be at a Sales Environment Africa - 50% Africa travel will be required.
Code B Drivers Licence
Computer Literate: MS Office Suite; MS Projects; Procurement systems (e.g. PRONTO)
TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES/SKILLS:
Export requirements of countries in Africa.
Intensive knowledge of Africa new/existing business & market share (incl. West, East & Central African Mining – Zimbabwe, Botswana, Mozambique, Lesotho, Namibia, Zambia, DRC, Tanzania, Kenya, Ghana, Burkina Faso, Mali, Sierra-Leone).
Occupational Health and Safety Act.
Project management and record keeping practices.
Logistics: Air, sea and land.
Read and interpret engineering manuals, drawings, plans, specifications, layouts and schematics.
Knowledge of business process and functions (Finance, HR, Procurement, Operations etc.).
Principles and practices of opencast, underground, and exploration mining
