Job Purpose:
Manage the procurement process within an organization by acquiring goods from the Johannesburg market and supporting Durban and Port Elizabeth operation by communicating and placing orders with suppliers. Market buyer plays a critical role in ensuring that the organization obtains the necessary products at the right time, in the right quantity and quality.
Working hours are unique to the role, Market related purchases / Transactions are normally conducted in the early hours of the morning to get the best produce out.
Requirements to report for duty when going to the Market is 04:00am twice a week
Job responsibilities:
Purchase requisition processing
- Reviewing purchase requisitions from internal stakeholders, such as departments or project teams, to understand their procurement needs and requirements.
- Verifying specifications, quantities, and delivery timelines.
Purchase Order:
- Creating and issuing purchase orders to selected suppliers.
- Ensuring accuracy and completeness of purchase orders, including item descriptions, quantities, pricing, delivery information, and any special requirements.
Order expediting and consolidation:
- Making sure that the fresh produce bought adheres to the quantities prescribed in the requisition and is of the required quality.
Data analysis and reporting
- Analyzing procurement data to generate reports and insights.
- Tracking and reporting supplier performance.
System Maintenance:
- Make sure that the goods purchased from the market are received and recon is done from the upfront payment conducted.
Financial
- Recommends cost saving initiatives and controls expenditure within approved parameters.
- Control expenditure according to budget and report deviations according to financial procedures.
- Assist team with analysis of costs of sales and price variances.
SHEQ
- Adhere to all aspects of Occupational Health and Safety, Security and Food Safety Management System guidelines and operational policies and procedures.
Food Safety
- Comply with all food safety management requirements.
Stakeholder Engagement
- Conducts work in a customer-orientated manner to ensure adherence to service level agreements.
Candidate Requirements
Education Level: (minimum)
- National N Diploma in supply chain management/ Business management or equivalent
Experience:
- Minimum of 2 -3 years’ experience in the supply chain environment, specifically focusing on buying
- FMCG & PFMA experience will be advantageous.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Power Point and Outlook).
- SAP Experience an advantage
- Must have knowledge of the food and beverage industry.
- High attention to details.
- Strong reporting skills
