The SABS is a statutory body that was established in terms of the Standards Act, 1945 (Act No. 24 of 1945) and continues to operate in terms of the latest edition of the Standards Act, 2008 (Act No.8 of 2008) as the National Standardisation Institution in South Africa. It is the only entity in South Africa with the legislated mandate to develop, maintain and promote South African National Standards (SANS). Accordingly, the strategic objective of the SABS is to contribute to the efficient functioning of the South African economy by:
Developing standards to advance the socio economic well-being of South Africa;
Delivering relevant conformity assessment services that facilitate access to markets for the South African industry.
We provide these platforms through our services in Testing, Certification, Accreditation, Design and Training.
In addition to our Pretoria Head Office premises, offices and laboratories are situated in Olifantsfontein, Richards Bay, Cape Town, Saldanha Bay, Durban, Mpumalanga, Secunda, Port Elizabeth and East London.
